Friedrich Hecker

Biography

Friedrich Hecker was born in 1811 and spent his life championing liberty, bringing the spirit of the European revolutions into the American Midwest and encouraging others to speak up for justice and equal rights.

He remained a guiding presence in his adopted community, drawing neighbors together with stories of distant struggles and steadfast hope, and he now rests in the quiet of Summerfield Cemetery.
