Georg V of Hanover

1819–1878 (age 59)

Biography

Georg V of Hanover, the last king of Hanover, ruled with a love for the arts and a deep sense of duty, even after the kingdom's annexation by Prussia in 1866 forced him to live in exile.

He continued to compose solemn choral pieces and to support the musical life of his people in spirit, preserving the dignity of his house and the tenderness of his heart before being laid to rest in St George's Chapel at Windsor.
