Biography

George Alfred Townsend chronicled the Civil War for newspapers and through fiction, his spirited dispatches from battlefields making him one of the most recognizable war correspondents of his day.

He later turned to novels, short stories, and lectures, always striving to keep the memory of the conflict and its lessons alive; his work is remembered by readers and he now rests among friends at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
