Biography
George Brinton McClellan graduated from West Point and served in the Mexican War and as a railroad engineer before the Civil War returned him to national service. He organized and led the Army of the Potomac, earning respect for his ability to train thousands of volunteers into a disciplined fighting force.
After the war he remained active in public life, applying his talents to the improvement of infrastructure and the welfare of veterans before serving as Governor of New Jersey; today he rests in Riverview Cemetery where his commitment to the republic is remembered.
