George Child Villiers, 5th Earl of Jersey

1773–1859 (age 86)

Biography

George Child Villiers, 5th Earl of Jersey, born in 1773, carried forward his family’s distinguished service by representing landed interests in the Commons before inheriting the earldom; he remained a thoughtful steward of his estates, supported charitable causes in his communities, and used his seat in the Lords to defend the concerns of the rural gentry.

He died in 1859, and the Church of All Saints in Middleton Stoney preserves the memory of the Earl whose measured judgments and steady patronage brought comfort to generations of those he served.
