Biography

George D. Ruggles graduated from the United States Military Academy and entered the artillery branch, serving with distinction as a staff officer during the Civil War, helping to manage the flow of troops and stores in the Eastern Theater and later on the frontier.

He went on to shape the Army’s administrative corps during the years of expansion, overseeing the Adjutant General’s office and advocating for improved recordkeeping before retiring with honor and being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
