Biography
George F. McFarland was born in 1834 and answered the call of his era, serving with distinction as an officer of the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War before returning home to guide young minds. His discipline and care for fairness made him a respected leader both on the battlefield and in classrooms, where he nurtured a spirit of service among his students.
When the war ended he continued to honor the memory of his comrades and the ideals for which they had fought, supporting veterans' causes and encouraging civic pride. He is interred at Harrisburg Cemetery, leaving a legacy of courage tempered by gentleness.
