Biography
George Henry Himes arrived in the Oregon Territory during its formative years, growing from a young pioneer into a careful steward of the region’s past. He gathered documents, preserved early diaries, and helped establish the Oregon Historical Society so that the state’s story would endure.
He spent decades mentoring researchers and expanding the museum’s collections, ensuring that future generations could learn from those who shaped the Pacific Northwest; he now rests at Greenwood Hills Cemetery, leaving behind a well-tended legacy of history in the public trust.
