Biography
George L. Shoup, born in 1836, moved west to Idaho Territory where he built a successful mercantile business and served as a territorial legislator before statehood arrived.
He became Idaho's first governor and was later elected to the U.S. Senate, steadfastly guiding the new state through its infancy, and he is interred at Pioneer Cemetery as one of the state's foundational leaders.
