George McKendree Steele guided students and congregants alike, serving as president of Lawrence University and later leading Methodist ministries with calm assurance as he promoted education for many.

He retired to the Newton area, where his thoughtful counsel and faithful friendship were cherished and now rest beside loved ones at Newton Cemetery.
