Biography

George Nicol, born in 1740, began his career amid the booksellers of London and soon earned a reputation for taste and integrity, eventually serving as bookseller to the royal household.

He supported the spread of knowledge through carefully curated editions, aided scholars and collectors, and played a part in the life of St Olave Old Jewry, where his lifelong love of books is now commemorated.
