Biography
George Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Marquess of Hastings (1808–1844), was a nobleman and politician who lived during the height of the British Empire. Though his life was cut short at the age of thirty-six, he had already established himself as a significant figure in Parliament and in the affairs of state. His early death was a loss to his family and to the political circles in which he moved.
The 2nd Marquess was interred at the Church of St Edward King and Martyr in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, a church of considerable historical importance. His burial there reflects both his social standing and his family's long connection to the East Midlands. His memory is preserved in the annals of Parliament and in the records of the church that holds his remains.
