George Rice, 3rd Baron Dynevor

1765–1852 (age 87)

Biography

George Rice, 3rd Baron Dynevor, was born in 1765 into the extensive Welsh peerage and presided over his Carmarthenshire estates with a strong sense of duty; he undertook improvements at Dynevor Castle, supported local clergy and the building of schools, and served for decades as Lord Lieutenant, Custos Rotulorum, and as a steady voice for Wales in the House of Lords.

His long life ended in 1852, and the Church of St Mary in Great Barrington cherishes the memory of a nobleman whose calm stewardship and gentle counsel comforted both his tenants and the wider national life.
