Biography
George Spearing was a naval officer who lived from 1728 to 1824, enjoying a remarkably long life that spanned nearly a century. His career at sea coincided with a period of British naval expansion and dominance, during which the Royal Navy became the preeminent maritime force in the world.
Spearing was associated with Greenwich, the historic center of British naval administration and home to the Royal Naval College. His long service and extended lifespan allowed him to witness the transformation of naval warfare and technology from the mid-18th century through the early decades of the 19th century, including the Napoleonic Wars.
