Biography

George V. Kelley served with honor as a colonel in the Union Army, leading men with courage and conviction during the Civil War. His command of the 8th United States Colored Infantry reflected both a tactical mind and a commitment to the cause of liberty, even as he faced the great perils of that conflict.

After the war he continued to embody the virtues of service and responsibility, and Riverside Cemetery remembers him as a veteran whose courage helped preserve the Union.
