George Washington Julian

Biography

George Washington Julian's commitment to liberty led him to champion abolition, land reform, and honest government as he represented Indiana in Congress, fighting for the Homestead Act and the rights of free laborers.

He sustained that crusade for equality well into his later years, writing and speaking on behalf of women's suffrage and fair taxation, and his grave at Crown Hill Cemetery marks the resting place of one of Indiana's bold reformers.
