Biography
George Wilkins Kendall, born in 1809, became one of the nation’s earliest war correspondents, co-founding the New Orleans Picayune and sending vivid dispatches from the Texas Revolution that helped shape public understanding of a fledgling republic.
After his reporting years he invested his energies in ranching near Boerne, Texas, pioneering scientific approaches to raising sheep and leaving a legacy that endures in Kendall County and at Boerne Cemetery.
