Georges Braque

1882–1963 (age 81)

Biography

Georges Braque transformed painting with his inventive exploration of Cubism, sharing with Pablo Picasso a language of planes and light that shifted the way the world was seen on canvas. His career, marked by a reverence for still life and the solidity of form, also moved through lyrical periods where color and texture danced in quieter, more intimate compositions.

Beyond his revolutionary work, he remained humble about his craft, welcoming fellow artists and students into a dialogue that kept the movement alive; his final resting place in the Varengeville-sur-Mer Churchyard is visited by admirers still captivated by his bold yet tender vision.
