Gerda Taro

1910–1937 (age 27)

Biography

Gerda Taro pursued photojournalism with courage, capturing the Spanish Civil War beside her partner Robert Capa and insisting that the world witness the human cost of conflict through the viewpoint of an engaged eyewitness.

She fell in the line of duty in 1937, becoming one of the first women war photographers to die on the front, and Père Lachaise remembers her daring spirit and compassionate lens.
