Biography

Gershom Mott rose through the ranks to become a Union general, leading brigades and divisions through the trials of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and the Wilderness; his courage in battle earned praise from comrades. He emerged from war mindful of the sacrifices of those he led and worked to honor their memory.

After the conflict he kept faith with his fellow veterans and the community around him, and today his resting place at Riverview Cemetery testifies to the devotion he brought to service and country.
