Biography

Gideon Putnam envisioned the springs of Saratoga as more than a natural curiosity and devoted his life to building a welcoming village, constructing the Putnam Hotel, laying out roads, and supporting the first mineral baths that drew visitors from far beyond the Hudson Valley.

His pioneering efforts to combine hospitality, commerce, and civic improvements made Saratoga Springs a model for healthy retreat communities and left a legacy of generosity in the Adirondack region.
