Biography
Gilberte de Courgenay became a symbol of courage and kindness during World War I when she tended to Swiss soldiers with warmth as a cantonal waiter. Her devotion lifted spirits and embodied the supportive role women played on the home front during uncertain times.
After the war she continued to be celebrated for her gentle leadership, and in later years her story was told as one of Switzerland’s quiet heroines. She rests at Cemetery Nordheim, where pilgrims remember her as a figure of compassion.
