Gino Pariani came of age in St. Louis and rose to national prominence as a member of the 1950 U.S. World Cup team that stunned England in one of the most famous upsets in soccer history. A talented forward, he also starred for local clubs and helped nurture the sport’s growth at a time when it had few champions in the United States.
