Godfrey Thornton

Biography

Godfrey Thornton was born in 1737 and pursued a career in banking, a profession of growing importance during the eighteenth century. As a banker, he participated in the financial networks that supported England's commercial expansion and economic development during this period of growth and change.

Thornton's life spanned sixty-eight years, and he was respected within his professional and social circles. He was interred at the Parish Church of St Edmund or St James in Blunham, where his memory is preserved among the community he served.
