Biography

Gordon Welchman was a brilliant mathematician whose analytical mind played a pivotal role in the early success of British codebreaking efforts at Bletchley Park during the Second World War.

He later bridged research and policy, and St Mary's Churchyard in Fishponds holds the quiet resting place of a scientist whose intellect helped shorten a global conflict and whose legacy inspires students of mathematics and history.
