Biography
Gregor Piatigorsky was born in Russia in 1903 and rose to prominence after studying in St. Petersburg and performing with the great European and American orchestras of the early 20th century. A beloved cellist, he made his home in California while continuing to enchant audiences with his warm tone and vibrant musicianship.
He devoted his latter years to teaching at institutions such as the Curtis Institute and the University of Southern California, championing both classical masterworks and new compositions while inspiring generations of cellists through his generosity and artistic integrity.
