Biography
Gretchen Fraser rose to international acclaim as an alpine ski racer, earning America’s first Olympic gold medal in skiing at the 1948 Winter Games and blazing a trail for future women athletes.
Once retired from competition she devoted herself to teaching and to expanding opportunities for young skiers, and she remained a beloved advocate for winter sports until her passing in 1994.
