Biography
Gustaf Wilhelm Belfrage emigrated from Sweden and became a respected naturalist in the United States, dedicating his life to collecting specimens and corresponding with scientific peers to further the study of North American flora and fauna. His careful work enriched museum collections and provided scholars with invaluable material from the Gulf Coast and beyond.
He died in 1882 and was interred at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and meticulous study that inspired later generations of naturalists.
