Biography
Gustave De Smet was a leading voice in Belgian expressionism, painting compositions that pulsed with colour, candid emotion, and a deep sense of place, particularly after he settled in Deurle where he co-founded a vibrant artistic circle.
His work continued to evolve even as Europe endured conflict, and he rests at the cemetery of Sainte-Aldegonde de Deurle, leaving a legacy that still inspires the Belgian art community.
