Gustave Naville
1848–1929 (age 81)
Biography
Gustave Naville was trained as an engineer but found his calling in the deserts of Egypt, where his disciplined mind and patient care for detail guided the excavations of Deir el-Bahari and other ancient sites, bringing light to pharaonic temples and inscriptions.
He documented every finding with scientific rigor, publishing editions that have aided generations of Egyptologists, and he returned to Geneva knowing that the precision of his work had deepened the world's understanding of Nile civilization before resting at the Cemetery of Kings.
