Biography

Gyula Peidl was a trade union leader who rose to prominence during the revolutionary year of 1919, briefly heading the Social Democratic government that sought to restore labor rights and calm the streets after the fall of the Hungarian Soviet Republic.

He continued to champion workers' interests through the trade unions and the Social Democratic Party, acting as a steady voice for moderation even as the political tide turned, and his memory is honored at Fiume Road Graveyard.
