Biography

Hızır İlyas (1801–1864) was an Ottoman historian whose scholarly work contributed to the preservation and interpretation of Ottoman history. His historical writings reflected the intellectual developments of the mid-nineteenth century Ottoman Empire.

İlyas's contributions to Ottoman historiography remain part of the intellectual legacy of his time. His life's work honored the Nasuhi Lodge, where he was ultimately laid to rest.
