Halbert E. Paine

Biography

Halbert E. Paine (1826–1905) served with distinction as a Civil War general and later represented Wisconsin in Congress, where he worked to secure the rights and well-being of the soldiers he had commanded.

He remained active in civic affairs and in telling the story of his generation’s sacrifices, eventually being laid to rest with honor at Arlington National Cemetery.
