Biography

Halvor Kålstad, born in 1877, served the people of Tønsberg with a steady hand, working within municipal councils to address the needs of an industrializing community. He was respected for his calm judgment, his insistence on thorough preparation, and his willingness to listen to laborers and tradesmen alike.

During his tenure he promoted improvements to housing, public health, and transportation, encouraging cooperation across parties so that civic services could keep pace with a growing population, and he remained a familiar presence in local meetings until his passing; the old Tønsberg churchyard near the harbor is his final resting place. His contributions helped ensure the city could offer reliable services to families in every neighborhood.
