Biography

Hamo Thornycroft was a sculptor of national renown whose work helped define the New Sculpture movement, combining classical form with dynamic realism. His monuments and memorials, many of them cast in bronze and set in public squares, captured the vigour of modern life while paying respectful tribute to history.

In his later years, Thornycroft found a peaceful resting place at Wolvercote Cemetery, where admirers of his artistry reflect on the blend of strength and sensitivity in his oeuvre. His legacy endures both in stone and in the generosity with which he nurtured younger artists.
