Biography

Hannibal Hawkins Macarthur lent his energy and business sense to the early economy of New South Wales, serving as a merchant, wool grower and public official during the formative decades of the colony.

He sought to balance enterprise with civic responsibility, and his efforts to promote prosperity and stability for settlers in Australia are recalled with gratitude beside his grave at West Norwood Cemetery.
