Biography

Harriet Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, Duchess of Sutherland, served as Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria and used her position at court to draw attention to philanthropic causes, while overseeing the estates at Trentham with a thoughtful eye to both opulence and practical reform.

She was admired for the grace with which she entertained guests, for the support she offered to Highland and military charities, and for the encouragement she gave to the many people who sought her counsel.
