Harry Steenbock (1886–1967) was a biochemist whose pioneering work at the University of Wisconsin advanced the understanding of vitamin D and its role in preventing rickets. His innovative use of ultraviolet irradiation to increase the vitamin content of foods laid a foundation for public health efforts in nutrition across the nation.
He remained deeply involved in supporting scientific research and education long after his laboratory work, and today Forest Hill Cemetery holds the remains of a man whose steadfast curiosity and advocacy improved the health of countless families.
