Biography

Hashimoto Reiko (1835–1889) lived during Japan's transformative Meiji period, a time of profound social and cultural change. Her life spanned an era when traditional Japanese society was rapidly modernizing and adopting new ideas and institutions from the Western world.

Though limited records remain of her individual accomplishments, Reiko's life was part of the broader narrative of Japanese women during the Meiji era, a period when women's roles and opportunities were evolving. She was laid to rest at Aoyama Cemetery, a significant burial ground for notable figures of her time.
