Biography

Hastings Edward Harrington (1832-1861) was a military officer who served in India during the tumultuous period surrounding the Indian Rebellion of 1857. His career spanned the critical years when the British military faced unprecedented challenges to their authority in the subcontinent.

Harrington's burial at Agra Cemetery, a significant military station, reflects his service in one of India's most important colonial centers. His relatively early death at age 29 was not uncommon among military personnel serving in the challenging climate and conditions of 19th-century India.
