Biography
Helmi Viires was a pioneering linguist whose work deepened understanding of Estonian language and folklore traditions during a period of cultural renewal. With scholarship grounded in meticulous research, she helped preserve nuances of dialects and idioms that might otherwise have faded.
Viires also shared her knowledge generously, guiding students and colleagues with patience and encouragement, ensuring that linguistic heritage remained accessible to future generations. Her legacy is honored at Pärnamäe Cemetery.
