Biography

Henry A. Livingston was a gentleman of the Hudson Valley who belonged to one of New York's prominent families. Born in 1776, he came of age during the American Revolution and lived through the nation's early decades as a respected member of the Poughkeepsie community.

Livingston's life exemplified the genteel traditions of the Hudson Valley gentry. He lived until 1849, witnessing tremendous changes in American society, and was buried in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
