Biography

Henry Augustus Burroughs (1856–1882) came of age in Philadelphia after the Civil War and devoted himself to the study of civic affairs, offering steady counsel to friends in business and lending his time to local charities as the city rebuilt its promise. Those who knew him remember a patient listener whose calm presence encouraged young people just as Philadelphia worked to heal.

He now rests in Laurel Hill Cemetery, where family members keep his memory alive by recalling the quiet generosity he showed while he was still among them.
