Biography

Henry Chapman Mercer pursued his passions as an archeologist, tile maker, and historian, preserving folk traditions while creating unique structures such as the Mercer Museum and the Fonthill ceramic masterpiece. He saw craftsmanship as a means of connecting the past with the present and invested in Doylestown's cultural life for decades.

His pursuit of tangible heritage and his advocacy for historical awareness continue to inspire visitors who remember him in the grounds of Doylestown Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
