Biography

Henry Christopher McCook (1837-1911) was a naturalist and clergyman whose curiosity about insect life brought new insights to both entomology and theology. A Presbyterian minister and Civil War chaplain, he devoted his spare hours to studying ants and other insects, publishing illustrated works that connected their behavior to moral and spiritual lessons.

McCook’s patient observation, prolific writing, and gentle humor endeared him to readers across the country, and his life is commemorated in The Woodlands.
