Biography
Henry Clay Ide, a Vermont-trained lawyer, served at home in civic roles before undertaking national service as Ambassador to Spain and later as Governor-General of the Philippines, where he worked to strengthen civil institutions and promote education for every resident.
Upon returning to the United States he remained active in public affairs, writing and speaking in favor of thoughtful diplomacy and civic responsibility while continuing to encourage the men and women who carried forward the ideals he championed overseas.
