Biography

Henry Demarest Lloyd was a pioneering journalist and social critic whose work in the late nineteenth century helped shine a light on the excesses of concentrated wealth. Through articles, lectures, and his influential book Wealth Against Commonwealth, he encouraged readers to consider fairness and justice in an era of rapid industrialization.

He remained a vocal advocate for labor rights and democratic reform until his death in 1903, and his body now lies at Christ Church Churchyard, where visitors can pause to honor his lasting commitment to the public good.
