Biography
Henry Gabriels, born in 1838, served faithfully as the third bishop of Ogdensburg and was instrumental in strengthening Catholic education and charitable outreach across the diocese. His pastoral care and personal warmth earned him deep respect, and he oversaw the completion of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, which became the heart of worship for generations.
When he died in 1921, his body was laid to rest in the Saint Mary’s Cathedral Crypt, where pilgrims continue to visit and give thanks for a shepherd whose courage and kindness inspired many.
