Henry Harford

1758–1834 (age 76)

Biography

Henry Harford, born in 1758, was heir to the proprietary rights of Maryland and carried that weight with a dignified sense of duty, even after the upheavals of revolution altered the course of colonial governance. Though he never ruled in the colony, he retained a deep respect for its people and its promise.

Returning to England, he lived quietly while still mindful of the welfare of his neighbors, embodying a gentler kind of leadership. He is remembered at St Michael's Church, where his life of reflective service is honored.
