Henry Howe

1812–1896 (age 84)

Biography

Henry Howe, whose career spanned much of the nineteenth century, brought the stories of early American towns to life through his historical collections; born in 1812, he traveled widely, recording the characters, customs, and civic institutions that turned new settlements into permanent communities.

He made a lasting gift of those writings to readers and scholars, and when he died in 1896 his resting place at Spring Grove Cemetery joined the ranks of Cincinnati's most thoughtful citizens.
